3 Reasons to Share Your Content More Than Once

3 Reasons to Share Your Content More Than Once

Social networks are busy places and it can be a challenge to get the visibility you want for your blog posts.

You’ve spent time creating helpful, useful content for your target audience, so why should you be satisfied with posting it just once? Your content has a better chance of standing out if it is shared several times over the course of a few days (and even re-shared several months later, as long as the information is still relevant).

A re-posting strategy does NOT mean spamming your Fans/Followers with the same blog post 5 times a day; it does mean that you should create several different updates for each blog post (or whitepaper, guide, video, etc.) and share them at strategic times.

Why should you re-post content? Here are 3 good reasons:

1. So your audiences in different time zones can see it

If you live on the East Coast of the US and post at 8:00 am, how many of your Facebook Fans on the West Coast are going to see it at 5:00 am? Probably not as many as you’d like.

Check your Facebook Insights dashboard to see when your Fans are online. Then schedule your blog posts/content at those optimal times. We don’t recommend sharing the same blog post on the same day on Facebook; schedule a second update featuring the blog post for next week or next month.

2. To get more traffic

Obviously, the more people who see your blog posts, the more potential traffic goes back to your site. While re-posting the same content 5 times in one day on Twitter may annoy some of your followers, re-posting 5 times over a period of 5-7 days can be a very effective strategy.

For example, you would Tweet your new blog post twice on day 1 (at least several hours apart, with slightly different text), once on day 2, once on day 4, and once more on day 6. Upload different photos the Tweets for variety, and use different hashtags (if applicable).

Keep in mind the 80/20 guideline: 80% of your Tweets should be other people’s content and 20% should be your content. Use tools like Hootsuite or the Buffer App to schedule your Tweets and save time.

3. For new Fans/Followers

People who have just Followed you on Twitter or just Liked your Facebook Page may not have seen your content from 6 months ago. It’s a good idea to re-post content so new Fans/Followers can see all the great information you’ve previously shared.

You can simply make it part of your content calendar to share one older blog post on a regular basis (e.g. every Wednesday or Friday), or you can make it a “theme” day like the popular Throwback Thursday posts. One good thing about using a popular theme is that there may already be trending hashtags available that will get more potential views for your content.

For example, the Throwback Thursday theme uses hashtags like #throwbackThursday or #tbt on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

How can you make re-posts more interesting? (Just in case the same person sees it more than once)

Here are few ideas to get you started:

Create several different graphics for each blog post and then alternate which one you use for re-posts on different platforms.

Write several different versions of the blog post title and use them to create multiple Tweets.  Or take a quick tip from your post and use that to create a new  Tweet.

Use a different hashtag on each Tweet to reach a broader audience.

Upload a short video with one of the Tweets.

Create a short video as an introduction (or “teaser) for your blog post, or to highlight major points in your blog post. Share the video on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.

If you are not currently re-posting your original content, use some of the tips shared here and give it a try. Then monitor the response from your online communities. You can always make adjustments to how often you share your content, as you find the best option for your social site(s).
