“Begin with the end in mind.” Stephen Covey

When you are planning blog posts, think ahead to how you can re-purpose the post. What additional ways can you share the content you’ve created? You’ll be leveraging your time and providing even more helpful content for your audience. Here are three ways to re-purpose your blog posts:

#1 – Make a video or slideshow using the blog content

The video can be of you speaking on the topic: there are many easy ways to shoot a video and then upload it to YouTube (and it doesn’t have to look “perfect” to get the message across).

Or you can create slides in a power-point presentation and then record your screen. There are a variety of screen-recording applications out there (some with a significant investment for a small business); but if you want to test a few videos before purchasing software, I recommend screenr.com You can easily make a 5 minute video for free and then embed or download it. (Your video – screencast – is also posted on screenr’s website).

#2 – Turn the blog post into a larger article or a free report

If the topic of your blog post can be expanded upon or you could go into even more detail, then that topic may be a good candidate for a longer article or a free report for your followers.

Plan (or create) the article or free report first and then take pieces from the article/report and create a smaller blog post that serves as an introduction or promotional post.

Or

If you want to offer your audience a free report but aren’t quite sure how to begin, write a few blog posts on the topic. You may find that you can compile 3-4 blog posts, add a few graphics, add a checklist or resources page…and you’ve created the content for your first free report.

#3 – Compile posts and create an eBook

If you have a bigger goal, such as an eBook, then you may want to write your blog posts as chapters (or shorter versions of the chapters).

If your eBook is going to have 10 chapters, then write 10 blog posts. Later, you can expand the posts, add graphics (if applicable), add an introduction and conclusion…and your eBook is done.

Look at your blog content as more of a “stepping stone” rather than the end product on a topic. Then you will be able to put together helpful content in a variety of ways that can reach a larger audience.
